Chaos at Ben Gurion Airport continues: Israir updates on delayed flights

Disruptions at Ben Gurion Airport continue to affect airline operations, and the Israir flight schedule has not yet returned to normal. The company reports that some flights continue to depart and land, but at the same time, a number of flights are on hold, and the entire schedule is currently affected by the disruptions at the airport.

The update comes after hours of unusual congestion at Ben Gurion Airport, on a day when more than 100,000 passengers are expected to pass through the airport. Throughout the day, flight delays, disruptions in baggage handling, and changes in airline schedules were recorded. Now, even after the announcement of a gradual resumption of takeoffs and landings, time is needed to return the flight schedule to regular operation.

Israir clarifies that the company's teams are working to operate flights according to the schedule, but given the situation at Ben Gurion Airport, it is not possible at this stage to guarantee that all flights will depart at the original time.

The company asks passengers to take into account that the situation may change depending on developments at Ben Gurion Airport and the rescheduling of flights. "We are making every effort to operate flights on time, but at this stage, all flights are affected by these disruptions," Israir stated. The company recommends that passengers check their flight status before leaving for the airport and continue to stay updated on the Israir website, social media, and media outlets.

The update from Israir comes against the backdrop of a particularly stormy day at Ben Gurion Airport, as, in parallel with the disruptions, a confrontation developed between the Ministry of Transport and the Transport Workers' Union in the Histadrut over the question of what is behind the chaos at the airport.

In the Ministry of Transport, claims were made that workers had abandoned their posts, and it was even stated that a worker who does so illegally may be summoned for a hearing and even face dismissal. On the other hand, the Histadrut rejects the claims and clarifies that all workers are at their posts and that no instruction to strike was given. The union claims that the real problem is a manpower shortage that they have been warning about for months, and that the unusual congestion is not the result of a "wildcat strike."

At the same time, it was reported that starting at 15:00, takeoff and landing operations at Ben Gurion Airport will be gradually resumed, in accordance with the rescheduling of flights. However, after the disruptions recorded during the day, further changes and delays are expected until operations stabilize.
