Singer Naor Cohen speaks out against Moshik Afia: "I didn't get the respect I deserve"
Naor Cohen, who recorded the song "It's Me" a decade ago, discovered that Moshik Afia released it on his new album under a different title. The artist is demanding credit for his original performance, calling the lack of acknowledgement disrespectful to emerging musicians.
Singer Naor Cohen woke up one morning to discover that his song "It's Me," released a decade ago, had appeared on Moshik Afia's new album under a different title: "I Was For You." The release contained no mention of Cohen and failed to acknowledge that it was, in fact, a cover.
In a conversation with mako, he expressed his frustration: "This song came out 10 years ago with my previous managers. They own the master, and I don't know what they intend to do. I just want the credit I deserve as the original performer."
Cohen explained the oversight: "The original songwriter, Revital Nachmani, forgot that this song existed and passed it on to Moshik Afia. A decade later, after the song was released, she realized she had made a mistake. Moshik Afia didn't even know it was a cover at all."
Even after Naor provided the information to Afia and his team, they did not add him as the original performer. While there is no legal requirement to do so, Cohen feels they are morally obligated to state that this is not a brand-new song, but rather a track he originally performed.
"It's a cover in every sense. The fact that he didn't know whose song it was, and that she misled them, is not my fault. For my part, as an artist, I didn't get my respect. After all, it's my song—a song I worked hard on, spent time in the studio for, and invested in. It's not nice that a singer of such status does this to small artists, but okay, that's his business. I didn't demand anything except credit," Cohen stated.
