The Chief Rabbi's call following the disasters: "The responsibility lies with everyone"

The Rabbinate emphasizes that maintaining safety rules is an integral part of the value of the sanctity of life, and that the responsibility for preventing disasters lies with every person.

The Rabbinate emphasizes that maintaining safety rules is an integral part of the value of the sanctity of life, and that the responsibility for preventing disasters lies with every person.
In a letter titled "And you shall guard your souls very carefully," the Chief Rabbi wrote that during these summer vacation days, one must act with special caution when going to recreation areas, streams, and vacation spots.
"One must remember that whoever goes on vacation must not forget that there are those among our brothers who are risking their lives for the sake of our protection, and one must continue to pray for them and for their safety," he wrote.
Rabbi Bar further emphasized that the obligation to adhere to safety rules applies to everyone. According to him, one must obey the instructions of the authorities, avoid entering unauthorized beaches, adhere to safety rules while swimming, hiking, and in pools, and obey the instructions of lifeguards and rescue forces. In addition, he called for caution against lighting fires in open areas, avoiding leaving children unattended, ensuring the complete extinguishing of grills and bonfires, and acting responsibly to prevent fires that could endanger human life, property, and nature.
The Chief Rabbinate notes that the message gains added validity against the backdrop of recent disasters, and as a continuation of the cooperation with the Israel Fire and Rescue Authority intended to increase awareness of the issue.
"Saving a life overrides everything, and adhering to safety rules is a Halachic and moral obligation of the highest order. The responsibility lies with each and every one to do what is required to prevent disasters and save lives."
