Just two minutes after completing a security briefing with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, opposition leader Yair Lapid issued a harsh political statement criticizing the handling of security updates.
"Threat updates should come from professionals, from the IDF, from Shin Bet, not from the Twitter account of a politician who is in an election campaign," Lapid wrote, adding that there is no reason to cause public panic.
In response, the Likud party questioned how a prepared statement could have been issued so rapidly, noting the exact timeline of the meeting and publication. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier confirmed holding the briefing with the participation of military officials regarding potential threats ahead of the upcoming elections.
