Lance Stroll Secures 18th on Grid After Singapore Grand Prix Qualifying Blunder
Aston Martin's Lance Stroll will start the Singapore Grand Prix from 18th place after a Q1 exit, compounding a tough weekend following a sprint race crash.
Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll faced a disappointing qualifying session at the Singapore Grand Prix, securing only the 18th position on the starting grid after an early exit in Q1. Just days after achieving his season-best 12th place finish, the Canadian driver struggled on the Marina Bay street circuit.
Qualifying Setbacks and Sprint Chaos
Stroll veered off the track early in the opening qualifying phase and failed to set a competitive time thereafter. This dismal grid position follows a chaotic sprint race held earlier the same day. Starting also from 18th, Stroll's race ended on the very first lap following a collision with Cadillac driver Sergio Perez.
While race stewards blamed Perez for the incident, the outcome left both drivers retiring early from the sprint. Stroll now faces a monumental task to fight his way into the top 10 during Sunday's full Grand Prix.
Contract Renewal Amid Criticism
Stroll's continued presence in Formula 1 frequently draws sharp criticism from pundits and fans who argue he occupies a seat better suited for rising talents. Furthermore, his lack of points significantly impacts Aston Martin in the constructors' championship, potentially costing the team millions in end-of-season prize money.
Despite ongoing performance debates, Aston Martin recently confirmed that Stroll has signed a contract extension to remain with the team through the 2027 season, continuing alongside two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.
