Actress Minnie Driver injured in serious accident: "Grateful to be alive"
The 56-year-old Oscar nominee shared that a speeding car hit the vehicle she was traveling in with a friend. She is suffering from a neck sprain and is recovering in London: "We crawled out, but we made it out alive. I'm in shock and crying all the time."
British-American actress and singer Minnie Driver has revealed that she was injured in a serious car accident in France a few days ago and is currently recovering at her home in London while wearing a neck brace. The 56-year-old actress posted a video on Instagram on Thursday, explaining that she and a friend named Ben were in a car that was struck at an intersection on a country road in France.
"Somehow we made it out... well, we didn't make it out, we crawled out, but we made it out alive," Driver said in the video.
According to her, the accident was not their fault: another vehicle, traveling at high speed, failed to stop at the intersection and collided with them from the side.
Driver shared that the accident left her with a neck sprain, in a state of shock, and crying constantly, though she added that she is doing okay. "The reason I'm not dead is the car we were in. I've never been in an accident before, but the airbags are what saved our lives."
In her post, she also expressed gratitude to a van driver who stopped to assist them before the ambulances arrived. "I am so grateful that I am alive. Thank you so much from me and my friend. And from my family and the people who love me," she said. In the caption, she added: "My brain keeps replaying the accident, and it's very hard, but it seems to be a necessary part of the processing. Crying also feels good and helps. Thank you to my friends, my family, all the people at work, and especially my friend Ben and his family. I love you."
Driver achieved her Hollywood breakthrough with the lead role of Benny Hogan in the 1995 film Circle of Friends, and later starred in Good Will Hunting in 1997 alongside Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, a role for which she received an Oscar nomination. She also voiced Jane Porter in Tarzan (1999) and played Carlotta in the 2004 film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera. In 2025, she joined the fifth season of Emily in Paris. Since the beginning of June, she has been in Paris filming the sixth season of the show, a month after Netflix announced it would be the final one.
