The minor accused of involvement in the murder of the late Yamanu Zelke is expected to return to the classroom at a school in Petah Tikva while equipped with an electronic ankle monitor. The planned return of the accused to a routine of studies within an educational institution evokes a sense of profound abandonment and shock at the contrast between the price paid by the family and the return of the suspect to the education system.
Yarus Zelke, Yamanu's sister, expresses deep shock at the court's decision and levels sharp criticism at the law enforcement and judicial system. She emphasizes the painful absurdity in which her brother was murdered while at his workplace, while the accused in the act returns to a routine:
«My brother went to work, it is the most normal place there is, and the one who murdered him returns as if everything is fine. It is delusional and it is a shame for the court system».
According to her, this policy reflects a deep failure: «The court system is no longer built for 2026, because it releases murderers without even letting us, the citizens, know who the murderers are who are walking among us».
Yarus's cry highlights the magnitude of the fracture in which the family finds itself, having discovered the decision for the first time through the media and not through an official update from law enforcement authorities. The feeling of insult and abandonment, exacerbated by the lack of transparency, led Zelke to level harsh accusations at the functioning of the judicial system. In her words, Zelke clarified that law-abiding citizens were left without an answer in the face of the wave of violence:
«We are citizens of Israel, those who keep the law, we are abandoned. We are dealing alone with the epidemic of violence that exists».
Out of the pain and the public struggle, the family is focused on commemorating the memory of Yamanu Binyamin Zelke, among other things through a community event of introducing a Torah scroll in his memory.
