Israeli Poker Star Arrested in Los Angeles: All the Details
Renowned Israeli poker player Gal Yifrach, who has won millions of dollars in his career, has been taken into custody by U.S. immigration authorities. While officials remain ambiguous regarding the reason for the arrest, Yifrach is being held at a facility in Southern California against the backdrop of a pending indictment.
Israeli poker player Gal Yifrach, one of the most well-known names on the international scene, was arrested a few days ago at Los Angeles International Airport by agents of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
At this stage, U.S. authorities are maintaining ambiguity and have not released the reason for the arrest, the country from which Yifrach arrived, or whether the detention is related to immigration issues or other criminal suspicions.
According to a report on the "PokerNews" website, Yifrach is currently being held at the immigration detention facility in the town of Adelanto in Southern California. The report further noted that inquiries by the site's correspondents for an official response from U.S. authorities went unanswered, and no official explanation for the circumstances of his capture has yet been provided.
Yifrach is considered one of the most prominent players in the industry, having accumulated winnings totaling approximately $3 million in various competitions around the world throughout his career. In 2025, he won a prestigious championship bracelet at a tournament in North America, and last year he recorded another impressive achievement when he overcame hundreds of competitors in a massive tournament and took home a prize of over half a million dollars.
It should be noted that the arrest occurs while a legal question mark hangs in the background. About four years ago, an indictment was filed against Yifrach for involvement in operating an illegal gambling network and money laundering. According to the indictment, between 2018 and 2022, he was allegedly involved in a network that handled huge sums, which were purportedly invested in real estate and business ventures. The legal proceedings in his case have not yet concluded and he is presumed innocent, a fact that did not prevent him from continuing to compete successfully in international tournaments.
