"Police are holding suspects in the murder of Eldar Dayan as hostages"
The court extended the detention of five murder suspects by five days. Their lawyers expressed outrage at the police's conduct and demanded their release, but the judge granted the police's request.
The murder case of the late Eldar Dayan: The Magistrate's Court in Petah Tikva decided today, Thursday, to extend the detention of five murder suspects by an additional five days.
In his ruling, the judge wrote: "There is a reasonable suspicion linking the suspects to the commission of the offenses attributed to them." According to the investigation, they inflicted injuries on Dayan that led to a brain hemorrhage, which subsequently resulted in his death.
Police representative Denis Chernomorets stated at the hearing:
"This was a brawl that unfortunately ended tragically with the death of the victim, Eldar Dayan. According to the suspicion, the suspects caused injuries to the victim that led to his death."
Defense attorneys Shai Roda, Yaron Forer, and Avi Cohen argued during the hearing that the suspects are being held as hostages until the arrival of the pathological report from the Institute of Forensic Medicine, which is expected to determine the cause of death.
The lawyers contended that the body had been left in the field for many days in extreme heat and had even been damaged by wild animals, making it impossible for the Institute of Forensic Medicine to determine the cause of death.
Although the defense requested the release of the suspects, the court extended their detention.
Meanwhile, Dayan's friends, Omri Peretz and Maxim Barberman, who are also suspected of murdering Dayan, remain in custody until Monday. An appeal against the extension of their detention was rejected today by the District Court.
