Photographer who documented Iran sentenced to 15 years in prison: "Do not forget me"

Iranian photojournalist Yalda Moaiery, who documented life under the terrorist regime in Tehran for over two decades, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. An Iranian court convicted her of "acting in the interests of the Zionist regime against national security." Moaiery, whose stories and photographs have appeared in international media, is now calling on the world: "Do not forget me."

Moaiery documented, among other things, the violent suppression of protests in January, the war against the USA and Israel, and the regime's current campaign of repression. Despite the threat of a long prison sentence in Iran's notorious prison system, she declared that she would continue to testify as long as she could.

"I am not willing to work within their propaganda," she said.

In a past interview, Moaiery described the unprecedented scale of the protests, but noted that hope had vanished with the government's crackdown. After the war against the USA and Israel, she reported that many Iranians hoped the attacks would bring down the regime. Now, she testifies that this hope has faded, and even claimed that the war has strengthened the regime. Moaiery noted that she is facing "the worst version of the Islamic Republic I have ever seen," and that the regime has become "much angrier and tougher." Hours before the last interview, authorities threatened to raid her home if she spoke to international media again, but she stood her ground: "I am not giving up. I have no regrets."
