The mutiny in Givati: The sentences of the last 4 soldiers were handed down; one was tried during his pre-discharge leave

The IDF has completed disciplinary proceedings against the last of the soldiers who led the mutiny in the Tzabar Battalion of the Givati Brigade. Following the incident, the trials of the last four soldiers concluded, including one who was tried during his pre-discharge leave.

Three of the soldiers were sentenced to 30 days in prison, removed from combat roles, and transferred out of combat service immediately. The fourth soldier, who was tried during his pre-discharge leave, was sentenced to 20 days in prison; he too will be removed from combat roles and transferred out of combat service.

In total, 14 of the incident's leaders were sentenced to 30 days in prison, removal from combat roles, and transfer out of combat service. Concurrently, about 80 other soldiers who left the base but returned to it will undergo, along with their commanders, a command and educational process to strengthen the discipline, values, and norms expected of IDF soldiers.

The incident occurred after dozens of soldiers from the Tzabar Battalion left the Sde Teiman base without the permission of their commanders, in protest of the battalion commander's decision to remove signs and symbols related to the 'young-old' tradition. The IDF backed the battalion commander's decision and clarified at the beginning of the affair that they would distinguish between the leaders of the incident and the soldiers who were dragged along behind them.
