Tel Aviv Municipality Raises Parking Rates Again: "Ahuzot HaHof" Tariffs to Jump by 20%
As part of new measures by the Tel Aviv Municipality, parking prices at "Ahuzot HaHof" lots will increase significantly. At three locations, the start time for the discounted "night mode" will be delayed from 19:00 to 21:00.
The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality is once again raising parking rates at "Ahuzot HaHof" lots by 20%, alongside further tightening of conditions for city residents. Under the new measures, parking prices in municipal lots will increase, and at three specific locations (Tel Nordau, Basel, Bnei Dan), the start time for the discounted "night mode" will be delayed from 19:00 to 21:00, requiring residents to pay the regular hourly rate for additional evening hours. For Tel Aviv residents, the discount at the Tel Nordau, Basel, Sheraton, Bograshov, and Bnei Dan lots will be reduced from 75% to 50%.
The new rates will be 6 shekels per hour for residents, up from 5, and 24 shekels for non-residents, up from 20. Night rates will be 9 shekels for Tel Aviv residents (instead of 7.5) and 36 shekels for non-residents (instead of 30).
This wave of price hikes comes just two years after a similar move by the municipality. As recalled, two years ago, the city implemented a comprehensive policy update that included a 25% rate increase at "Ahuzot HaHof" lots, the expansion of blue-and-white zones, and the doubling of parking zones across the city. The municipality has repeatedly emphasized that these measures are necessary to manage scarce parking resources and encourage the use of alternative transportation, noting that municipal parking prices remain lower than private alternatives.
"First, we note that even after the rate update, parking at 'Ahuzot HaHof' lots will remain significantly cheaper than private alternatives in the area, and Tel Aviv-Yafo residents will continue to enjoy discounted rates. The update follows years of significant increases in operating and maintenance costs, alongside a decline in revenue following the Parking Lots Law. Furthermore, the update is intended to better reflect the economic value of parking, assist in managing demand, reduce traffic congestion, and improve parking availability in commercial, entertainment, and cultural areas. Rates were set after examining nearby private parking prices and usage patterns, while maintaining discounted parking for city residents," stated "Ahuzot HaHof".
