Niv Haya's mother reveals: "There was no chance, I extended her life"
Gali Sagi, the mother of the late Niv Haya, who passed away from cancer, appeared on 'Israel HaBoker' to discuss the book she wrote during her daughter's treatment in Texas. "It took on a completely different meaning when she passed away; she managed to hold it in her hand literally a week before. She was unconscious and I read chapters to her," she shared.
Gali Sagi, the mother of the late Niv Haya, who passed away from cancer, appeared on Tuesday's episode of 'Israel HaBoker' to discuss the book she wrote while her daughter was hospitalized for treatment in Texas:
"It took on a completely different meaning when she passed away; she managed to hold it in her hand literally a week before. She was unconscious and I read chapters to her."
According to Sagi, despite all medical predictions, she refused to accept the prognosis and chose a different path. "For three years, I lived with immense faith. I didn't listen to any doctor, and nothing else mattered. My daughter didn't have a chance from the moment she got sick; I extended her life thanks to faith and hope," she emphasized. Gali shared that because the illness was terminal, her daughter had been eulogized four times throughout that period.
"We launched a crowdfunding campaign and reached the largest cancer hospital in the world in Texas. When they told me there was a one percent chance, for me it was 100; accepting the eulogy was never an option," she said. Her unwavering faith reached her daughter as well: "I kept telling her, 'Niv, you are recovering,' and she would reply, 'Mom, I don't care what they say; if you say I will recover, then I will recover.'"
Her new book, 'The Journey I Didn't Choose,' speaks to the power of a mother's faith and perspective. "What value life has. To hug more and love more. This is my daughter's legacy: 'And you shall choose life.' It is not just a sad story," she noted.
As recalled, after a long and stubborn struggle, Niv Haya Avitan, who was diagnosed in May 2023 with advanced-stage cervical cancer, passed away nearly two months ago. The late Niv underwent a series of grueling treatments, radiation, and complex surgeries in Israel and the United States, which took a heavy toll on her young body.
Niv's struggle lasted for years and was filled with upheavals. She frequently turned to the power of social media to raise donations to fund her numerous treatments. She did not face these difficult years alone; by her side stood her mother, Gali, and her husband, Yam, who ensured the public was updated on her medical condition and, above all, asked the Israeli public to pray for her recovery.
