Paul, a cleaning expert who runs the YouTube channel "MGTracey", recently presented his preferred solution to the problem without using expensive chemicals. Instead of purchasing dedicated descaling agents, he uses distilled white vinegar, a basic and extremely cheap product. According to him, using white vinegar is effective for breaking down minerals and returning the kettle to a like-new condition within a few minutes, at a cost of a few shekels for an entire bottle.
The cleaning process is simple and requires minimal precision: Paul recommends a mixture consisting of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. For a standard kettle, he measured about 300 ml of each liquid. He used the first part of the mixture to soak the removable water filter, which often accumulates the thickest layer of dirt, while he poured the rest of the liquid into the kettle itself and brought it to a boil.
The results in the test were almost immediate. After just about five minutes of soaking, Paul showed viewers how the limescale on the filter had completely dissolved. After the mixture inside the kettle boiled, he let the appliance cool down a bit and rinsed it thoroughly with clean water several times to remove any lingering smell. In cases of particularly heavy buildup that has not been cleaned for a long time, it may be necessary to repeat the process once more.
To maintain the results over time, the expert recommends not leaving excess water in the kettle after use and always emptying it. Also, you can use a microfiber cloth with a little diluted vinegar to polish the appliance on the outside as well. According to him, after cleaning, the kettle not only looks better, but also returns to full functionality as it was on the day of purchase, which contributes to extending the life of the appliance.
