"The dog detected the drugs": 1.6 kg of crystal seized in a vehicle at Beit Kama
Police dog Ikara thwarted a major smuggling attempt and two suspects were arrested. At the same time, an underground money exchange business was uncovered in Rahat inside a vehicle, where hundreds of thousands of shekels in cash were seized.
Fighters of the Southern National Guard of the Border Police (Magav) and officers of the Southern District's Central Unit seized on Wednesday 1.6 kilograms of a substance suspected to be crystal-type drugs, which were hidden inside a vehicle at the Beit Kama junction.
The seizure was made possible as part of an undercover operation conducted at the site, when during the search of the vehicle, carried out with the assistance of the police dog Ikara, the drugs were located under the hood and in the back of the rear seats.
Following the discovery, two suspects, 22-year-old residents of the Bedouin diaspora, were arrested and transferred for questioning. In addition, the police seized the vehicle in which the drugs were hidden.
Meanwhile, in another operation conducted the day before by detectives from the Rahat station together with fighters of the Southern National Guard of the Border Police, an underground money exchange business was uncovered inside a vehicle in the industrial zone in Rahat. The officers located two suspects at the scene who, according to the suspicion, provided money exchange services without a permit.
During the search of the vehicle, large sums of money in Israeli and foreign currency were seized, including 139,942 shekels, 646 dollars, 10,305 Jordanian dinars, and 440 euros. The two suspects, aged 44 and 72, residents of Rahat, were arrested by the officers and transferred for questioning.
The police stated:
"The Israel Police will continue to act decisively against drug offenses, economic crime, and criminal elements, while integrating all its units and capabilities, with the goal of maintaining public safety, strengthening governance, and damaging criminal infrastructure wherever they operate."
