American TV host Kelly Ripa revealed today, Thursday, the reason for her recent absence from the television screen. According to her, she underwent a medical procedure following a "good" and common habit that led her to the operating table. In an interview on her podcast, Ripa said: "I brush my teeth too much." According to her, this "good" habit caused significant gum recession, especially in the lower area of her mouth.

Following that habit, Ripa had to undergo a gum graft procedure. Her husband shared that although Ripa is "known for not feeling pain, it hurt her, so I know it's bad." After the medical procedure, Ripa was unable to speak for ten days.

As noted, gum health is a serious matter, as bacteria can enter the bloodstream through weakened gums. This condition increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes, makes it difficult to manage diabetes due to chronic inflammation, and raises the risk of respiratory infections such as pneumonia.

Experts emphasize that over-brushing, brushing too hard, or using hard-bristled brushes does not make teeth cleaner—and may even damage the gums. To prevent such complications, dentists recommend using soft-bristled toothbrushes and brushing for two minutes.
