Bar Asraf's sister-in-law: "No one noticed that something was going on with him"

Bar Asraf took his own life at the cemetery next to the grave of his close friend, Liron Barda, who was murdered at the Nova music festival on October 7. Shir Asraf, Bar's sister-in-law, paid tribute to him in a conversation with Amichai Atali and Gideon Oko on 103fm, and addressed the tragic event that occurred shortly after his younger brother's wedding.

The tragedy occurred just a few days after a family celebration — the wedding of Shir and Maor, Bar's brother. Shir said that at the wedding, which took place on Wednesday, Bar looked happier than ever.

"He invested his all so that the event would be perfect for the couple, took care of every detail, danced and hugged everyone with visible excitement. He looked like the happiest person in the world, no one noticed that something was going on with him," she shared with pain. "On Friday we had a party, and he dedicated a song to his parents and danced with them."

She recalled their last phone call: "He called me the night before the wedding and said to me: 'Shirki, get up, I can't sleep from excitement.' It kills me that I don't have the conversation recorded. He told me there that he loves me, and he was very happy ahead of the wedding. His brother was his diamond."

She spoke about the bond between Bar and Liron Barda, Bar's good friend who was murdered at the Nova festival. "He was her soulmate. He would tell her everything, and she never judged him," she said. "I knew her, and they were very good friends." After she was murdered, Shir said that "when we would talk about her he would cry, he would sit a lot at her grave. At first he was sad like in any mourning, and in my opinion, he suppressed it."

"Something in the last year in him was 'extra'"

In the last year, Bar changed. "He was 'extra' with us, 'extra' with the family. But no one thought it was to that extent. He would come to us a lot, and was with Maor a lot in the last year. They were always close, but something in the last year in him was 'extra'. They look very similar, and they were like they became twins."

"He had a period two months ago where he was a bit depressed — down, and he slept at my place and Maor's. We didn't leave him alone, but he was a very strong person, and after a day or two he told us — leave me alone, and we left him. He was also a happy person," she shared. And now the family is broken. "They are shattered. I have been here for 12 years, and I have never seen them like this in my life, not his mother and not his father."
