Kimi Antonelli is on the verge of making Formula 1 history, as the Italian driver looks set to break Sebastian Vettel's long-standing record and become the youngest world champion in the sport's history.

Following a third-place finish at the Singapore Grand Prix, Antonelli holds a commanding 102-point lead at the top of the driver standings. He could mathematically secure the title at the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, when he will be just 20 years and two months old.

If he clinches the championship in Austin, Antonelli will end Italy's long wait for an F1 title, which dates back to Alberto Ascari in 1953. Mercedes teammate George Russell and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton remain mathematically in contention, but the young Italian's dominant season leaves him in complete control heading into the final stretch.
