Israeli Defense Minister Blames Opposition for Potential Security Threats
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz blamed opposition leaders for potential future attacks, sparking sharp denunciations from Yair Lapid, Gadi Eisenkot, and Yair Golan.

Defense Minister Israel Katz accused the opposition on Thursday, stating that any future attacks on Israel will be blamed on opposition leaders. Katz's remarks followed a speech by HaDemokratim leader Yair Golan, who claimed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is creating the conditions for the next Yigal Amir.
Katz wrote that any upcoming terrorist attacks or strikes against Israel will be attributed to Yair Lapid, Naftali Bennett, Yair Golan, and their opposition colleagues. He accused them of continuously attacking the prime minister and undermining security assessments regarding potential enemy actions designed to influence the upcoming Knesset elections.
Opposition Reactions and Criticism
Former Prime Minister Yair Lapid strongly condemned Katz's statement, calling it reckless and hysterical. Lapid argued that the government is shifting blame for its own failures in defeating Hamas, countering Iran, and managing regional security.
The reckless and hysterical statement by the defense minister is a gift to Israel's enemies. Once again, the failure government is looking for excuses and scapegoats, said Lapid.
Warnings from Gadi Eisenkot and Yair Golan
Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Yashar! party, sharply criticized the defense minister, asserting that Katz is preparing the ground for the next disaster and shifting responsibility in advance. Eisenkot termed the accusations an unprecedented low and stated that political survival has superseded national security.
HaDemokratim leader Yair Golan also responded during a party meeting in Tel Aviv, characterizing Katz's statement as a sign of panic and hysteria. Golan emphasized that blaming political rivals for enemy actions demonstrates a severe lack of responsibility.
