Jerusalem: Six arrested on suspicion of attacking a church in the Old City
Three suspects were brought to court for a detention hearing, while others were released under restrictive conditions. The police stated: "The Israel Police views any manifestation of violence and racism with severity."
Six individuals, including a minor, have been arrested on suspicion of spitting at the Armenian Church in the Old City of Jerusalem and throwing stones at the building. Three of the suspects were brought before the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court for a detention extension hearing, while the others were released under restrictive conditions, including a restraining order from the Old City area.
The incident occurred over the weekend along a primary pedestrian route used by Jews traveling toward Mount Zion and the Western Wall. Following reports of stones being thrown at the church, officers from the David District were dispatched to the scene and conducted extensive searches, which led to the apprehension of those involved.
"The Israel Police views any manifestation of violence and racism with severity and will continue to act with determination to locate and prosecute those involved in these acts, with the aim of maintaining public peace," the police stated.
