Former two-time NBA champion J.R. Smith was arrested on Tuesday in Texas on suspicion of domestic violence. According to Hunt County jail records, Smith was taken into custody on suspicion of assault causing bodily injury under domestic violence.
The 41-year-old former player remains in the Hunt County detention facility, with no bail set at this time. In his mugshot, he is seen looking directly at the camera wearing dark inmate attire.
Smith played 16 seasons in the NBA, winning two championships. The first came in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers alongside LeBron James, and the second in 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers, after which he retired from professional basketball.
Following his retirement, Smith pursued an unconventional path by returning to school. He enrolled at North Carolina A&T State University, joined the golf team, and earned a bachelor's degree in liberal studies.
