Jordanian border guards intercepted a group of 14 armed individuals attempting to cross from Syria into Jordanian territory late Friday night, according to an official statement released by the Jordanian military.

Military officials reported that the armed infiltrators tried to breach the border under the cover of darkness while opening heavy fire. Jordanian troops returned fire, hitting several members of the group, while the remaining suspects managed to escape back across the Syrian border.

Social media footage showed military vehicles deploying to reinforce border security, particularly in the Deraa governorate adjacent to the frontier. The incident follows a recent Jordanian airstrike in Deraa that resulted in seven deaths, launched in retaliation for a deadly shooting attack at a church in the Karak governorate that claimed the lives of worshippers.
