New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill has called on Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell to step down immediately following an independent investigation that concluded he engaged in workplace misconduct toward women. The report, released on Wednesday, found that Caldwell violated state policies prohibiting workplace discrimination.

According to the investigation, Caldwell attempted to pursue a friend of a staff member and made inappropriate remarks to an employee after being rejected. "The investigation found that the lieutenant governor committed serious and repeated violations of state policy and failed to fulfill the responsibilities of his office," Governor Sherrill said in a statement on Thursday.

Ethics Violations and Professional Misconduct

The report also accused Caldwell of violating state ethics rules by attempting to secure a promotion for a state employee with whom he was in a romantic relationship. In May, Caldwell reportedly emailed a senior official recommending his romantic partner for a high-ranking management position.

Caldwell’s attorney, Thomas Calcagni, rejected the allegations, characterizing the investigation as a one-sided process that lacked due process and fair hearings. Furthermore, the report outlined several instances of accepting complimentary event tickets, which investigators deemed prohibited gifts under state ethics regulations.
