"I will kill you": Two brothers opened fire on their family with an assault rifle
21 bullet holes were found in a vehicle after two brothers from Rahat, according to the indictment, fired and threatened their family members against the backdrop of a dispute. One of them fired an assault rifle while shouting threats, and his brother threatened with an object resembling a pistol. An indictment has been filed against both.
The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment today, Sunday, at the Be'er Sheva District Court against brothers Yosef Al-Bahiri (22) and Hassan Al-Bahiri (26), residents of Rahat, for an incident of shooting and threats against their family members. According to the indictment, the incident occurred against the backdrop of a dispute between the parties, during which Yosef fired at his relatives while women and children were present in the area.
From the indictment, filed by Adv. Itay Bitan from the Southern District Attorney's Office, it appears that about a month ago, two of the defendants' relatives were standing near their home, located opposite the brothers' house. At a certain point, it is alleged, Yosef went up to the roof of his house carrying an assault rifle and fired a large number of bullets towards his relatives and the road, while shouting: "I will kill you."
The relatives hid behind a vehicle parked at the scene to avoid being hit, and later fled to their home's courtyard. As a result of the shooting, damage was caused to the vehicle of one of the complainants, in which 21 bullet holes were found.
Threats with a weapon-like object
Parallel to the shooting incident, according to the charge, Hassan arrived at the back of the relatives' house holding an object resembling a pistol. He pointed it at one of his relatives and threatened him: "Stop or I will shoot you."
Later, the brother of the threatened person arrived at the scene, and Hassan allegedly pointed the object at him as well. "If you get closer I will shoot," he threatened the two, and then fled the scene.
Alongside the indictment, the prosecution requested the detention of the defendants until the end of the legal proceedings.
"There is no doubt about the high danger posed by those who possess and shoot with weapons, especially in the current period when the use of firearms has become a national plague," noted Adv. Bitan in the detention request. "The need to protect the public requires the detention of weapon offenders behind bars."
Yosef is charged with attempted aggravated assault, carrying a weapon, shooting with a firearm, and malicious damage. Hassan is charged with threats. The incident was investigated by the Rahat police station.
