Woman Retracts Sexual Assault Allegations Against Rapper Jay-Z
A woman from Alabama who accused Jay-Z of sexual assault in 2024 has officially retracted her claims, admitting in court that she never met the rapper.
A woman from Alabama who previously accused American rapper Jay-Z of sexual assault when she was 13 has officially retracted her claims, stating in court documents that there is no truth to the allegations.
The lawsuit, originally filed under a pseudonym in October 2024, alleged that Jay-Z and Sean Diddy Combs assaulted her at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in the year 2000. Her civil complaint was dismissed in February 2025, and a month later, the musician filed a countersuit against her and her legal team.
Apology and Statement
"Mr. Carter did not rape her, did not sexually assault her, did not engage in any misconduct, and she has never even met him," said the woman's new attorney, J. Blair Newman. He noted that while his client still maintains she was a victim of sexual assault in her youth, she completely mistook the identity of the perpetrator and falsely accused the hip-hop mogul.
"I understand that my false accusations caused him immense pain, suffering, and damage that cannot be fully repaired," the woman wrote in her new court filing, adding that she retracted her claims voluntarily without receiving any financial compensation.
Origins of the Lawsuit
In her latest statement, the woman explained that the legal action began after she clicked on a Facebook advertisement in 2024 targeting potential plaintiffs with claims against Sean Combs. The link led to an online form, and as childhood trauma resurfaced, she submitted her account.
The woman claimed she never reviewed a draft of the lawsuit before her attorneys filed it, and asserted that her prior legal counsel failed to account for her complex psychological struggles. However, her former attorneys disputed this, stating she had signed multiple affidavits and confirmed her story to several lawyers before filing.
