James Wiseman Secures Final Roster Spot with New York Knicks
James Wiseman, linked with Maccabi and Hapoel Tel Aviv this summer, secured the final roster spot with the New York Knicks after an impressive training camp.
Center James Wiseman, who spoke during the summer with representatives of Maccabi and Hapoel Tel Aviv after deciding with his agent to temporarily leave the NBA for Europe, has secured the final roster spot with the NBA champions New York Knicks, it was reported overnight.
Wiseman, selected second overall in the 2020 draft by the Golden State Warriors and once considered a major prospect in Deni Avdija's draft class, struggled to establish himself in the NBA and played just four games last season on a ten-day contract with the Indiana Pacers.
He held discussions with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv over the summer before they pursued other options, bringing in Daniel Theis and Armando Bacot for the yellow side and Bruno Caboclo for the red side. When those overseas moves did not materialize, he signed a training camp deal with the Knicks.
During training camp, Wiseman impressed by averaging 8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks in 11 minutes per game, earning a spot on Mike Brown's final roster. In the final stretch, he beat out NBA veteran Bruce Brown, a key player in Denver's 2023 championship run.
