British manufacturer Jaguar unveiled its new Type 00 electric vehicle, marking the brand's first new model in years. Positioned as a make-or-break car for the company, the Type 00 enters the ultra-luxury segment, targeting competitors like Bentley rather than traditional executive segments.

Technically, the Type 00 is equipped with a front motor and dual rear motors generating a combined 1,030 horsepower. This setup accelerates the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of nearly 250 km/h. It features a large 120 kWh battery pack, theoretically offering a driving range of over 700 kilometers. However, the technical specifications are overshadowed by the controversial marketing campaign that preceded the launch.

The vehicle's reception has been severely impacted by what is considered one of the most embarrassing campaigns in automotive history, often dubbed the "Teletubbies campaign," which alienated traditional buyers by leaning heavily into avant-garde aesthetics. Unlike mass-market manufacturers, Jaguar carries a heavy historical DNA rooted in British luxury, craftsmanship, leather, and wood.

Founded in 1922 by William Lyons, Jaguar transitioned to aviation components during World War II before entering its golden era with the introduction of the XK120 in 1948 and the iconic E-Type in 1961. Despite a turbulent history involving mergers under British Leyland and eventual acquisition by India's Tata Motors in 2008 alongside Land Rover, the brand maintained a loyal following.

Now, by transitioning exclusively to electric vehicles and abandoning internal combustion engines entirely—unlike competitors who have slowed down their EV transitions—Jaguar faces an immense uphill battle. Without a direct stylistic connection to its legendary past, the success of the Type 00 remains a high-stakes gamble for the iconic British marque.
