Israeli Windsurfers Secure Multiple Spots in World Championship Medal Races

The Israeli windsurfing team has completed the qualifiers of the iQFOiL World Championships in Great Britain with exceptional dominance, securing spots for four female and two male surfers in tomorrow's medal races. This remarkable achievement guarantees Israel at least one medal, as Tamar Steinberg and Sharon Kantor advanced directly to the women's final after finishing the qualifiers in first and second places respectively.

Women's Dominance in Britain

Tamar Steinberg, the 20-year-old reigning world silver medalist and fresh European champion, delivered a stellar performance throughout the preliminary stages. Winning seven out of 16 preliminary races, she carried a significant lead and secured a bonus point for the final. She now needs only a single victory tomorrow to claim the world championship gold. Meanwhile, Sharon Kantor, the 2024 world champion and Olympic silver medalist, climbed from 16th place up to second with consistent racing, also entering the final with a bonus point. Shahar Tibi finished seventh and will compete in the quarterfinals, while Daniella Peleg clinched the tenth and final spot after a dramatic comeback.

In the men's division, Olympic champion Tom Reuveni experienced fluctuations before finishing sixth overall to secure a quarterfinal berth. Yoav Omer led the standings at the end of the third day and ultimately finished eighth in the qualifiers, setting the stage for a competitive medal round. The championship in England marks the largest and most significant event ever held at the venue, featuring roughly 250 surfers from over 40 countries.
