The Israeli tech ecosystem recorded a historic milestone in the third quarter of 2026, with local startups raising more capital in the first nine months of the year than during the entirety of 2025. Data indicates that Israeli startups secured approximately $4.4 billion in Q3, driven by a surge in mega-rounds.

The September Surge and Mega-Rounds

September emerged as an exceptional month, accounting for roughly $2.5 billion across 20 transactions—about one-third of all deals reported in the entire quarter. Major funding rounds included a massive $550 million financing for Wonderful, a $400 million follow-on round for Cyera, $400 million raised by Island led by Dan Amiga, and a $300 million round for Upwind.

Growth-stage companies spearheaded the capital inflows, accounting for 11 funding rounds totaling $2.4 billion, representing roughly 60 percent of all capital raised during the three-month period. Meanwhile, early-stage startups maintained a steady 2:1 deal volume ratio compared to mature firms, though mid-stage companies continue to experience selective investor sentiment.

Unicorns and Massive Exits

The quarter also saw three new additions to the unicorn club: Buildots, Guardio, and Glow, the latter founded by Roy Tiger. M&A activity remained robust with 15 acquisition deals, including two SPAC IPOs by LightSolver and XTEND. The standout transaction was Visa's acquisition of BioCatch for $2.4 billion in August, alongside Upwind's $1 billion acquisition of Oasis, and Cognex's purchase of RealSense for over $600 million.

"The data definitely reflects a strong market, and that is what we see on the ground, but it is very uneven," said Yair Cassuto, partner at Pitango Venture Capital. "Big stories and experienced teams manage to raise very significant sums, especially in cyber, AI, and defense, and competition for top companies is high."

AI as an Integrated Catalyst

Industry experts note that artificial intelligence is no longer treated as a standalone vertical, but rather as an underlying technological layer transforming entire sectors, including cybersecurity, enterprise software, and defense technology.
