Defense Minister Israel Katz is expected to sign a special security order on Sunday banning the operation of drones controlled via fiber-optic cables or cellular networks across Israeli airspace.

The temporary measure will remain in effect for six months from the date of signature, providing an interim security response until permanent solutions are deployed. The decision follows directives by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Katz, which were approved by the security cabinet.

According to the defense establishment, the order was issued amid concrete intelligence regarding growing internal and external threats, including drone attacks, assassination attempts against officials, criminal syndicate usage, intelligence gathering, and smuggling.

The restriction is part of a broader package to counter drone threats, including import bans and regulatory frameworks formulated by the National Security Council alongside security agencies.
