Israeli Security Document Exposes Gaps in Aviation Counter-Terrorism Authority
A leaked security document exposes complex jurisdictional overlaps among Israeli agencies in aviation security, prompting the Prime Minister to order a review.

A newly revealed security document details the complex division of responsibility among Israeli agencies regarding aviation security and the prevention of hostile actors boarding flights to Israel.
According to the document, the Mossad is responsible for intelligence gathering, thwarting foreign terror threats, and managing intelligence during an airborne terror incident. The Shin Bet oversees aviation security directives abroad and handles threat information for Israeli aircraft.
The Transportation Ministry supervises security arrangements for non-Shin Bet aircraft, grants entry clearances into Israeli airspace, and coordinates security responses. Meanwhile, the IDF is tasked with protecting the nation's skies and operationally intercepting airborne threats.
Complications arise as passenger screening data systems fall under the Tax Authority, creating jurisdictional ambiguities. In response, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the National Security Council to establish a task force to clearly define responsibilities.
