Iris Haim, the mother of the late Yotam Haim who was tragically killed by IDF friendly fire in Gaza, published a scathing critique directed at the head of the Hostages and Missing Persons Directorate, Maj. Gen. (res.) Nitzan Alon.

In her public post, Haim confronted Alon directly, detailing a series of failures regarding his handling of intelligence related to hostages in Shejaiya. She noted that despite numerous reports from the field—including soldiers hearing calls in Hebrew and finding desperate signs left behind by the hostages—Alon repeatedly dismissed them as Hamas ploys.

Critical Intelligence Ignored

According to Haim, the command ignored crucial signs, including a notebook found with hostage handwriting, audio recordings captured by a military dog, and direct evidence of their location in a specific tunnel.

"My son, along with two of his companions, Alon and Samer, in their immense resourcefulness while wandering starved in Shejaiya, left you—yes, you!—two signs reading '3 hostages help' and SOS. Even on that, you said there was no need to check further because it was a lure tactic," Haim wrote.

Demands for Accountability

Concluding her emotional message, Haim lashed out at Alon for failing to take personal responsibility or apologize directly to the grieving families, urging him to resign immediately before an official investigation into the directorate's failures is conducted.
