In recent days, heavy security forces, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) motorcycle units, and Basij militia members have been deployed across the capital and other major cities. Authorities have set up checkpoints, inspected citizens, and checked mobile devices for hostile content. This massive mobilization follows student demonstrations at Allameh Tabataba'i University in Tehran, protesting mandatory hijab laws, soaring living and tuition costs, and ongoing political repression.
According to a Fox News report citing internal sources, the heightened security presence is visible throughout the public sphere. Motorcycle units patrol key areas, while police and Basij personnel are stationed at major squares, subjecting passersby to arbitrary searches. A report by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) claimed that authorities declared 100 percent alert levels across the military, IRGC, and police, canceled all leaves until late September, and deployed approximately 51,000 security personnel in the greater Tehran area.

Fear Tactics and External Posturing
Beyond street patrols, local sources describe a deep-seated intimidation mechanism. Security personnel photograph shops and merchants, political prisoners receive direct threats and are ordered to warn their families against joining protests, and Basij reservists have been gathered in designated compounds and educational institutions on the outskirts of cities. Meanwhile, IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi lashed out at Washington during a press conference in Tehran, calling on U.S. citizens to pressure President Donald Trump and demanding a change in administration.
This extraordinary security posture in Tehran, Isfahan, and Borujen highlights the leadership's deep fear of a resurgence of the 2022 protests. The Iranian regime faces severe economic sanctions, soaring inflation, and mounting domestic pressure as the threat of civil unrest becomes an existential crisis.
