Despite widespread hardship and the ongoing fallout from regional conflicts, the regime retains a dedicated core of supporters who regularly gather in central squares such as Revolution Square in Tehran.
Regime Propaganda and Public Mobilization
During recent events marking the 200th day of demonstrations, senior Iranian officials praised the steadfastness of the protesters. The Basij militia, which played a central role in suppressing earlier anti-government protests, stated that the Iranian nation would remain in the streets as long as necessary. Chief of Staff Ali Abdollahi and Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei both emphasized that public presence and national resilience are vital for deterring foreign enemies and safeguarding territorial integrity.
"Your presence and unity are what have strengthened the fighters' morale, amplified national resilience, and sowed fear in the heart of the enemy," said Ali Abdollahi.
Nightly gatherings in locations like Abuzar Square in Tehran have featured displays of military hardware, including ballistic missiles and drones, alongside anti-Western and anti-Israeli slogans. In Isfahan, official media highlighted drone exhibitions during nighttime rallies, while authorities also promoted the "Sacrifice of Life" campaign, claiming millions of volunteers ready to defend the state.
Expert Analysis on Regime Stability
Danny Citrinowicz, a senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) and former head of the Iran branch in IDF Military Intelligence (Aman), noted that while these demonstrations do not reflect the sentiment of the entire population, they cannot be dismissed. He explained that the nightly rallies serve a dual purpose: demonstrating external strength to the international community and signaling to domestic dissidents that the regime commands a formidable and mobilized base of support.
"There is genuine distress in Iran, but at the same time, I would not underestimate these demonstrations," Citrinowicz stated, emphasizing that the regime maintains a significant and active core of ideological loyalists despite compounding economic pressures.
