Secret Dinosaur Footprint Site Discovered in Iran Awaits Verification
A suspected dinosaur footprint site discovered in Iran remains secret to protect it from vandals. Researchers plan to use 3D photogrammetry for verification.

Mysterious Dinosaur Footprints Discovered in Iran
A rock surface in Iran bearing suspected dinosaur footprints has sparked significant interest among researchers, though its exact location remains strictly confidential to prevent vandalism and illegal fossil collection.
The researcher who revealed the find emphasized that scientific study at the site is still incomplete. Further details will be published only after thorough testing and a formal peer-review process, ensuring experts validate the findings before public release.
Protecting Vulnerable Fossil Sites
According to Iranian media reports, the initial announcement was made on the social network X and later circulated by the ISNA news agency. At this stage, the discovery remains a preliminary identification rather than a verified scientific certainty.
The researcher expressed deep concern that public exposure could lead to site destruction, noting that other fossil locations in Iran have previously suffered damage from individuals using hammers and picks. To decode the tracks safely, the team plans to use advanced photogrammetry to create 3D models and silicone molds for preservation.
"Scientific rigor is essential to prevent false discoveries and ensure the integrity of paleontological research," the lead researcher noted.
Until comprehensive geological and morphological analyses are completed, critical questions regarding the age, species, and paleoenvironment of the tracks will remain unanswered.
