Trend reversal? Pro-Saudi forces carried out 181 operations against the Houthis in the last 24 hours
After weeks of Houthi attacks, forces loyal to the Yemeni government reported a series of strikes they carried out. As a result of the strikes, there are dozens of dead and wounded in the ranks of the Shiite terrorist organization, in addition to the destruction of vehicles and weapons depots.
Forces loyal to the Yemeni government, supported by Saudi Arabia, announced that they carried out 181 military operations against Houthi targets and sources of threat during the last 24 hours.
According to the forces' statement, the operations were carried out on the front lines across Yemen and led to dozens of dead and wounded among the Houthis. In addition, they claim that dozens of vehicles, weapons depots, and equipment used by the terrorist organization were destroyed.
The Yemeni forces added that they possess the capability and readiness to continue acting against the Houthis and to neutralize the sources of threat from them.
The operations come against the backdrop of a significant escalation in fighting in Yemen in recent weeks. Last month, the Saudi coalition attacked the airport in Sanaa, and following this, the Houthis announced the "end of the de-escalation phase" and threatened that Saudi Arabia would bear the consequences. The pro-Saudi Yemeni government, for its part, announced that "patience has run out" and that it would act against violations of the country's airspace.
At the beginning of August, the fighting intensified when the Houthis launched a large-scale attack against government forces. According to reports, at least 30 soldiers were killed in attacks in the Hadhramaut and Marib provinces, which included the launching of ballistic missiles and explosive UAVs at military camps, soldiers' living quarters, and weapons depots.
Subsequently, the Houthis also attacked the port of Mocha, which is under government control, in an attack in which seven people were killed and 30 others were wounded. In response, government forces increased their operations against the organization, and among other things, it was reported that they attacked a Houthi communication station in the Marib province using a UAV and destroyed missile launchers.
The recent developments mark the renewal of direct fighting between the Houthis and the government supported by Saudi Arabia, after a prolonged period in which relative quiet was maintained between the sides.
In addition, military sources in the Yemeni government forces told the Emirati site "Erem News" that on Saturday, a Houthi command and control center was attacked, where Houthi officers from the missile array and Iranian experts were present. It was further reported that three Iranian technical experts, an Iraqi expert, and two Houthi commanders were killed in the attack. One of the commanders was considered close to the head of the Houthi "military wing," Yusuf Hassan al-Madani.
At the same time, it was reported that the Houthis carried out a wave of extensive attacks on the western coastal areas of Yemen. According to the sources, this is a response to attacks carried out by government forces against Houthi targets, which include rocket and naval capabilities.
Furthermore, the sources revealed that government forces carried out two high-quality operations last week in the southwest of the Al-Hudaydah province and in the west of the Taiz province. In these operations, according to the report, Houthi sites and gathering areas were attacked. The sources stated that in one of the gathering areas, a meeting was held between the Houthis and foreign elements associated with the organization's naval and rocket arrays.
