Instagram Launches Over 30 AI-Powered Story Effects Using Meta's Muse Model
Instagram has launched over 30 AI-powered story effects using Meta's Muse Image model, enabling users to transform photos into magazine covers, vintage film shots, and custom designs.

Instagram Introduces AI-Powered Story Effects
Instagram is continuing to expand its creative toolkit by integrating advanced artificial intelligence capabilities. The platform has officially launched over 30 new story effects powered by Muse Image, Meta's proprietary image generation model. These new features allow users to upgrade standard photos, alter styles, and generate personalized effects through text prompts.
Among the newly introduced effects are Disposable, which gives photos a vintage single-use camera look, and Night Flash, simulating high-contrast nocturnal photography. Additional options include Editorial, transforming images into magazine covers, and IG Charms, which turns user profiles into 2000s-style keychains. Furthermore, Crochet Plush Toy and Doll effects allow subjects to be rendered as knitted dolls or Barbie-style figures.
Meta stated that the underlying technology is capable of accurately detecting individuals, backgrounds, and lighting within an image to ensure natural integration.
Advanced Customization Through Text Prompts
In addition to the pre-made filters, users can craft entirely new visual effects by writing a descriptive text prompt detailing their desired outcome. This capability directs the artificial intelligence on how to modify the image based on specific creative concepts rather than relying solely on static filters.
By introducing text-to-image effect generation, Instagram provides creators with greater editing flexibility, eliminating the need for professional design software. This rollout underscores Meta's broader strategy to embed generative artificial intelligence across its social media ecosystem, empowering users to share highly customized visual content.
