Two engineering soldiers in the British Army were arrested after stealing a 15-ton armored personnel carrier last Friday, speeding through a military base in southern England, and colliding with private vehicles belonging to soldiers serving at the site.
The incident occurred at a military camp in Wiltshire, as reported by GB News. According to the details, the two soldiers, who had returned to the base during the night, were under the heavy influence of alcohol. Around 01:00, they gained access to a Bulldog armored personnel carrier.
One of the soldiers, a military engineer, drove the armored vehicle above its maximum speed (about 51 km/h) and subsequently lost control on a narrow path within the base compound.
In video footage filmed at the scene, the soldiers are seen driving the armored personnel carrier and hitting a van first, followed by an SUV that sustained severe damage to its rear and fender. Despite the force of the collision, there were no casualties, and the armored personnel carrier itself sustained no damage. After the incident, the two returned the vehicle to its designated parking spot and went back to their rooms.
Early in the morning, the Royal Military Police arrested the two and opened an official investigation. It is estimated that the damage caused to the private vehicles is valued at approximately 100,000 pounds sterling. A spokesperson for the British Army emphasized in response that the institution expects the highest standards from its personnel.
