The Central District Attorney's Office filed an indictment today, Monday, against two young people from the central region for a scam involving hundreds of thousands of shekels. The two fraudulently obtained money from 97 different victims after posing as representatives of insurance companies and withdrawing the cash from ATMs across the country.

The police investigation began covertly in recent months following complaints about fraud cases. Investigators from the Fraud and Cybercrime Unit discovered that the two operated a pre-planned method that targeted mainly citizens from the Arab community.

According to the indictment, the couple contacted victims and posed as representatives of insurance companies. To gain their trust, they provided accurate personal details about the citizens during phone calls. In the next stage, they convinced them that there were funds waiting for them in insurance accounts and asked them to generate a code for cash withdrawal without a magnetic card.

Police explained that the suspects arrived at the withdrawal points riding electric scooters. They entered the codes they received from the victims, withdrew the cash, and fled the scene quickly.

The two were arrested on August 9, and their detention has been extended several times since. During the investigation, the dimensions of the fraud were revealed, and evidence was collected pointing to harm caused to 97 victims. Today, as mentioned, an indictment was filed against them along with a request for detention until the end of legal proceedings.
