Illinois Mother Charged With Murdering Son After Obsessing Over Lindsay Clancy Trial
Illinois mother Corie Walsh has been charged with murdering her two-year-old son, Bart, in a suspected copycat of the Lindsay Clancy case. Prosecutors state Walsh was obsessed with the trial before claiming her son was the devil.

An Illinois mother has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly strangling her two-year-old son and attempting suicide, in a case heavily influenced by the high-profile Massachusetts trial of Lindsay Clancy.
Prosecutors in Will County, Illinois, revealed that 40-year-old Corie Walsh of Frankfort was deeply obsessed with the trial of Clancy, a former Massachusetts nurse accused of killing her three young children. Walsh had reportedly been discussing the trial extensively in a group chat with friends up until 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, just hours before the murder.
The Crime Scene and Arrest
At approximately 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, police were dispatched to Walsh's residence following reports of an unresponsive toddler. A neighbor who entered the home discovered the lifeless body of two-year-old Bart Walsh in the basement.
Upstairs, the neighbor found Corie Walsh lying in a blood-stained bathtub, actively self-harming with cuts to her wrists and thighs. The neighbor managed to disarm Walsh, throwing the knife into a sink, and applied pressure to her wounds until emergency services arrived.
While hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, Walsh detailed to investigators how she killed her son, a description that prosecutors noted was entirely consistent with the physical evidence. She reportedly told officers she committed the act because her son was "the devil" and "the anti-Christ."
Legal Arguments and Copycat Concerns
Walsh's defense attorney, Andrea Lyon, stated that her client was experiencing a severe mental health crisis during the incident:
"This is a tragedy for the Walsh family, who are grieving the loss of this child. It is also a tragedy in that Corie herself was experiencing a psychotic episode while this was occurring. We hope that through a thorough presentation and examination of the facts, we can all see this heartbreak for what it is."
Prosecutors have requested that Walsh be held without bail ahead of her upcoming court hearing. They argued she remains a danger to her family, noting she made statements about harming her other three children and expressed an intention to harm her husband upon his return home. Walsh's other children were unharmed during the incident.
The Lindsay Clancy Connection
The tragedy unfolded just as the trial of Lindsay Clancy in Massachusetts reached a dramatic standstill. Clancy's defense argued she suffered from postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible, pointing to her subsequent suicide attempt which left her paralyzed. The prosecution contended she acted deliberately. The Clancy trial ended in a mistrial on Friday after the jury failed to reach a verdict.
