Suspect arrested for attempting to 'buy' community service attendance

The Israel Prison Service (IPS) Investigations Division, in cooperation with the southern 'Barkai' unit responsible for supervising community service, has uncovered a bribery case involving attempts to evade service requirements through false reporting.

The investigation was launched after the suspect offered a detective from the 'Barkai' unit a bribe in exchange for fictitiously recording his attendance at the workplace, despite his absence.

Over the past two months, IPS investigators deployed an undercover agent to monitor the situation. According to the investigation, the suspect transferred thousands of shekels to the agent to facilitate the illicit arrangement.

Following the collection of evidence, and in coordination with detectives from the 'Barkai' South unit, the 'Dror' division, and officers from the Kiryat Gat police station, the suspect was arrested immediately after delivering the payment. He has since been transferred to the Israel Police for further processing.

The Israel Prison Service stated that it will continue to employ both overt and covert measures to enforce community service compliance and prevent any attempts to undermine the integrity of the legal process and public trust.
