"There is no other way": Donald Trump reaffirms support for Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara

The Royal Palace of Morocco published an official statement overnight (between Sunday and Monday) regarding a letter sent by US President Donald Trump to King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the kingdom's 27th Throne Day. In his letter, Donald Trump reaffirmed American recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Western Sahara territory and expressed support for the autonomy plan proposed by the kingdom.

"We recognize Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara and support Morocco's serious, credible, and realistic autonomy proposal as the only basis for a just and lasting solution," Donald Trump wrote.

The US President added that "any other path continues the status quo and is unacceptable. This conflict must end now, and the United States will continue to push for this goal."

In his letter, Donald Trump noted the relations of friendship and trust between the nations, mentioning that this year marks 250 years of American history and relations with Morocco. Furthermore, the President praised the leadership of King Mohammed VI, calling him an "anchor of stability." He emphasized the importance of security cooperation, the fight against extremism, and Morocco's role in the Abraham Accords and stability in the Sahel region.

On the economic front, Donald Trump informed the King that he has instructed his administration to promote economic and social development in partnership with Morocco, including in the Western Sahara territory. The President noted that American technology and innovation will continue to serve as partners to Morocco in strategic sectors, including energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and security.
