"Filmed a promotional video": A civilian drone entered Ben Gurion Airport, the operator was located
The security system at Ben Gurion Airport successfully located the operator of a civilian drone that entered the airport's airspace on Tuesday. The individual claimed he was filming a promotional video.
The control and security system at Ben Gurion Airport managed to locate today, Tuesday, a person who operated a civilian drone that entered the airport's airspace.
According to the Israel Airports Authority, the incident began at 11:40, when a control room employee identified an approaching drone.
"A few minutes later, the drone's entry into the municipal area was identified, and as a result, an integrated system of control room staff, operations, security, and field personnel was activated, alongside the dispatching of Ben Gurion Airport police," the statement read.
It was further noted that upon the vehicle's entry into the municipal area, a "freeze of the situation" was carried out for several minutes.
The Israel Airports Authority added:
"Throughout the incident, Ben Gurion Airport employees maintained continuous tracking of the drone's movement. The combination of advanced monitoring systems, the alertness of the control room staff, and the observation of field personnel made it possible to locate the operator's position and direct police forces to him. In the inquiry conducted with him after he was located, it turned out that the drone was operated for the purpose of filming a promotional video for a construction company."
"Unauthorized drone flights in the vicinity of Ben Gurion Airport may endanger aviation safety," the statement concluded, "and one must not fly a drone in restricted airspace without the required permits and in accordance with the provisions of the law."
