IDF Establishes New Space Brigade and Robotics Corps
The IDF is establishing a new Space Brigade under the General Staff and a dedicated Robotics and Drones Corps, part of a broad modernization effort led by Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are establishing a new Space Brigade within the General Staff, answering directly to the Deputy Chief of the General Staff. The decision was made by Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir as part of the multi-year "Hoshen" defense plan.
Expanding Orbital Capabilities
The newly formed brigade, to be commanded by a brigadier general, will consolidate all space-related activities within the military and oversee force buildup. Currently, operational space duties are distributed among the Air Force, the Military Intelligence Directorate, and the Directorate of Communications and Information Security. Defense officials indicate that future plans involve expanding satellite constellations and utilizing artificial intelligence to process telemetry over the Middle East.
"In three or four years, Israel will have dozens of satellites in space, and eventually hundreds," a senior defense official stated.
Integration of Robotic Systems
The creation of the Space Brigade coincides with another organizational shift directed by Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir: the establishment of a dedicated Robotics and Drones Corps. This new branch aims to address personnel shortages and minimize casualties by deploying autonomous armored vehicles, remote-controlled bulldozers, and tactical drones during combat operations.
