During the "Swords of Iron" war, the IDF was forced to operate across seven fronts, with the bulk of the air force's capacity directed toward the Iranian arena. Consequently, the military has recognized the critical need to develop an additional strategic arm alongside the air force, elevating the Israeli Navy to a parallel strategic level. The IDF has decided to integrate naval strike cells into divisions and regional commands, mirroring the air force's operational structure.

During recent operations, while the air force was heavily engaged with Iran, the navy provided crucial fire support for softening targets and offensive maneuvers, surveillance, casualty evacuation, and precise targeted strikes from the sea against land-based targets across multiple fronts, including Lebanon, Gaza, and Yemen.

"We have the capability to carry out strikes across diverse arenas. My primary mission is ensuring maritime supremacy in Gaza, and I execute this in close cooperation with the entire IDF, not just the navy," says Maj. Y., head of the navy's southern fire section. "Overall, the cooperation between ground forces and the navy has significantly deepened in recent years, including their capacity to lead missions."

October 7 remains a traumatic benchmark for the entire military, prompting a profound shift in naval strategy and force deployment. "Everyone failed. Our role is to continuously draw lessons and implement them. We are constantly acting to mow the grass, preventing Hamas from rebuilding its military and naval capabilities to the extent possible within our military framework. We respond to everything with the utmost seriousness," notes Maj. Y.Z., revealing that Hamas is actively attempting to rehabilitate its naval forces through self-produced and smuggled vessels.

Maj. M., head of the deployed echelon strike branch, emphasizes that the military operates a comprehensive defense and offense architecture based on three arms: air, sea, and land. "Defense plans truly reflect this integration. We have strike bodies in every division, and their role is to bring capabilities and synchronize missions—something that simply did not exist in the past."

Over the past year, the navy has transitioned from being viewed as a secondary unit to a prominent strategic asset. When the air force operated at lower availability due to engagements involving Iran, the navy stepped in as a vital alternative across Lebanon and Gaza, striking hundreds of targets and fundamentally altering how maneuvering brigades understand the battlespace.

Lt. Col. D., head of naval firepower, notes that joint fire centers are increasingly staffed by reservists from all branches, ensuring meticulous strike planning down to fine tactical resolutions. "The navy has grown into its role as a strategic arm of the IDF, maintaining constant readiness to protect Israel's strategic assets, eliminate maritime threats, and prepare for any regional escalation."
