IDF Diverts Gaza Strike to Save Civilians; Two Soldiers Injured in Lebanon Clash
The IDF diverted a munition mid-flight in Gaza to protect civilians, while two Golani soldiers were lightly injured in a clash with a Hezbollah operative in southern Lebanon.
The IDF released footage on Monday demonstrating the real-time diversion of a munition in the Gaza Strip to prevent civilian casualties. During an airstrike targeting a Hamas operative on Sunday, a crowd of civilians was identified in close proximity to the target. Because the munition could not be aborted after release, operators redirected it mid-flight to avoid hitting the civilians.
According to the IDF Spokesperson, "This incident illustrates once again the IDF's commitment to distinguishing between terrorists and civilians and taking all possible precautionary measures to minimize harm to them."
Golani Soldiers Injured in Lebanon
Meanwhile, two IDF soldiers were lightly injured on Monday during a clash with a Hezbollah operative in the Beaufort area of southern Lebanon. The IDF reported that the operative opened fire at a force from the Golani Reconnaissance Unit during searches inside a building. The soldiers immediately returned fire and eliminated the operative. The wounded soldiers were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment, and their families have been notified.
Shortly after the encounter, forces fired artillery shells at the structure where the operative had been hiding. Additionally, the IDF targeted weapons depots, headquarters, and other Hezbollah infrastructure in the area.
Ongoing Operations in Southern Lebanon
This clash occurs amid continued IDF operations in the security zone of southern Lebanon. Last week, the military announced that the 769th, 4th, and 55th Brigade Combat Teams, under the command of the 91st Division, are actively locating and destroying Hezbollah infrastructure and weaponry. During these operations, forces have uncovered anti-tank missiles, rocket launchers, explosive charges, firearms, and military equipment.
On Friday, Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that the IDF had completed the capture of the Ali Taher ridge and cleared the local tunnels of Hezbollah operatives. Katz emphasized that Israel will not withdraw from the security zone in southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed and the threats to the residents of the Galilee are removed. On Saturday, the IDF conducted further strikes against operatives and weapons depots in southern Lebanon following a drone launch directed at its forces the previous day.
