The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have carried out their largest operational demolition to date, using 1,100 tons of explosives to destroy the strategic underground tunnel network of the Ali Taher ridge in southern Lebanon. The massive blast caused localized tremors felt across Lebanon and northern Israel.
In recent months, the 36th Division, the Commando Brigade, and the Yahalom combat engineering unit intensified military pressure on operatives sheltering in the subterranean infrastructure. Forces first secured operational control above ground through targeted ambushes, drone strikes, and artillery fire.
Destruction of Hezbollah Infrastructure
Following ground control, engineering units secured the subterranean level to neutralize terrorist command centers belonging to Hezbollah's Badr Unit. The tunnel network spanned over 5,400 meters across eight distinct routes, containing explosive drones, anti-tank missiles, RPGs, and extensive military equipment.
"The operation successfully neutralized strategic underground infrastructure that served as a core command center for Hezbollah's Badr Unit, securing dominant terrain over the Nabatieh region," military officials stated.
Strategic Achievements and Ongoing Readiness
With the destruction of the Ali Taher tunnels, alongside previous demolitions in the Beaufort ridge and surrounding villages, the military has significantly degraded hostile capabilities near the border. The IDF remains deployed in southern Lebanon to prevent the reconstitution of militant infrastructure and protect northern communities.
