Eight arrested on suspicion of violence in the southern Hebron Hills - wave of arrests expected to continue
The suspects, aged 16-20, were arrested as part of an investigation into violent incidents in At-Tuwani and Khirbet Tuba, in which structures and a vehicle were torched and graffiti was sprayed. Three vehicles were seized. Police expect further arrests.
Eight suspects were arrested overnight on suspicion of involvement in arson and assault incidents in the southern Hebron Hills. The arrests were carried out as part of an investigation conducted by the inter-agency headquarters of the Judea and Samaria District.
The suspects, aged 16 to 20 from the Judea and Samaria area and the center of the country, were arrested in the Judea sector. During the operation, three vehicles were also seized, suspected of having been used to commit the offenses.
The investigation covers, among other things, graffiti and assault incidents that occurred on July 19 and on the night between August 5 and 6. The suspects were transferred for questioning, and upon its conclusion, the police intend to ask the court to extend their detention.
The wave of arrests is being conducted under the direction of the Judea and Samaria District commander, and the police noted that additional arrests are expected as part of the investigation.
The investigation focuses on two violent incidents in the southern Hebron Hills. On July 19, a vehicle and a mosque were torched in the Palestinian town of At-Tuwani and graffiti was sprayed. On the night between August 5 and 6, structures were torched and property damage was caused in Khirbet Tuba in Masafer Yatta, with Palestinian reports claiming that several people were injured. The eight suspects are currently being questioned regarding their involvement in these events.
