Infrastructure Work Begins on the Homesh-Sa-Nur Bypass Road

Infrastructure work and asphalt paving began Tuesday morning on a new road connecting Homesh and Sa-Nur in the northern West Bank, following roughly six months of clearing the route. Dubbed the "Silat a-Dahar Bypass," the road is designed to bypass the Palestinian village through which Route 60 currently passes between the two settlements.

According to the Samaria Regional Council, the road will create a continuous traffic corridor between the renewed settlements in the northern West Bank, improving security for travelers, security forces, and motorists in the area. The council noted that the construction is part of infrastructure development meant to enable a permanent presence in the region.

Security Importance and Historical Context

Homesh and Sa-Nur were two of four settlements in the northern West Bank evacuated in 2005 under the Disengagement Plan, alongside Ganim and Kadim. In March 2023, the Knesset approved an amendment to the Disengagement Plan Implementation Law, lifting the ban on Israelis entering the evacuated settlement areas in the northern West Bank.

"This is a massive breakthrough on the path to renewing massive settlement in the northern West Bank, alongside the establishment of new communities," said Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan during a visit to the site.

Official Reactions and Future Plans

Dagan thanked Defense Minister Israel Katz, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, the Settlement Administration, the Civil Administration, the Defense Ministry's Construction Division, the Samaria and Menashe regional brigades, and Israel Railways for their efforts.
