The Home Front Command has issued urgent safety guidelines following a tragic incident near the Lebanese border, urging the public to remain highly vigilant regarding suspicious objects and unexploded ordnance. Officials stressed that citizens must strictly avoid approaching or touching any unfamiliar items found in the field.

Tragedy Near the Lebanon Border

The warning follows a fatal explosion during a school trip by students from the Ort Ma'alot high school in the Ramim Ridge area near the Lebanese border. An unexploded ordnance detonated in the area where the students were staying, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old boy and injuries to several others. The incident has renewed deep concern over the severe hazards posed by remnants of war and unexploded munitions left in open areas.

Safety Protocols and Police Reporting

The Home Front Command reiterated critical safety rules for encountering potential threats:

  • Maintain a safe distance and completely avoid physical contact with any suspicious object.

  • Do not touch, move, or attempt to inspect the item independently.

  • Immediately report the finding to the Israel Police via emergency hotline 100 so professional sappers can handle the situation.

Authorities emphasized that even objects appearing old, rusted, or abandoned can remain extremely lethal, warning the public never to rely on outward appearances. In response to the disaster, the IDF announced that the Home Front Command will scale up public awareness campaigns regarding unexploded ordnance to prevent further casualties.
